Razor Burn
Razor burn is a condition that is not only restricted to the men but also faced by the women. Razor burn occurs when you are careless while shaving hair on any part of your body. Men need to shave to get rid or trim their facial hair for a neat look while women may shave hair on their limbs to get rid of body hair. Razor burns are skin reactions that cause irritation and these may include cuts and scratches occurring during shaving. These may also be accompanied with skin rashes and razor bumps which happen due to ingrown hair.
Symptoms of Razor Burn
Irritation and redness of shaved area on the skin.
Burning sensation on the freshly shaven area.
Chafed red skin.
Causes of Razor Burn
Soap or shaving cream ingredients irritating the skin.
Not using a proper product to help the razor slide over the skin’s surface.
Using a dull razor.
Pressing too hard.
Lack of lubrication while shaving giving way to too much of friction.
Shaving the hair in the opposite direction.
Too much use of aftershaves or colognes that may be sensitive to the skin.
Home Remedies for Razor Burn
Razor burns often happen if your skin is over sensitive. Consum
e vitamin C rich foods which keep the skin healthy.
Apply Aloe Vera gel which is a natural soothing agent to the area shaved.
Vinegar, especially apple cider vinegar is a very good remedy for razor burn.
Squash some strawberries and mix them with a teaspoon of sour cream. Apply on the affected area and wash off after about 10 minutes.
Peel a potato and slice it and rub it on the affected area.
Preventive Measures for Razor Burn
Apply shave oil to the skin area to be shaved prior to shaving which will make the hair soft and thereby prevent razor burns.
You can also use tepid warm water to be applied on the area before shaving to make the hair soft.
Properly lubricate the hair with shaving cream or soap which should be applied in the opposite direction of hair growth.
Shave in the direction of hair growth which is usually downward.
Maintain proper hygiene by keeping your razor and shaving kit clean, dry and replace the shaving blades weekly. Use your personal shaving kit and don’t share shaving items.
Ensure that your skin isn’t the sensitive kind and if it is then use aftershaves or lotions wisely.
