Hair loss

Now-a-days, hair loss seems to be a prominent problem among women. Normally hair growth occurs from the follicle at an average rate of about ½ inch per month. For about 2 to 6 years each hair grows, rests and then falls out. A new hair soon starts to grow in its place. At any point of time, 85% of hair is growing and 15% is resting. Hair loss is said to occur when hair falls out and new hair does not grow in its place.

Symptoms of hair loss:

Hair loss starts with thinning of hair and the pattern varies from one person to another.
Hair thinning mainly happens on the top and crown of the scalp. The front hairline stays intact.
When waking up in the morning, there may be large amount of hair on the pillow.
Rarely does hair loss lead to total or near total baldness.
Skin sores or itching on the scalp are generally not seen.
 Causes of hair loss:

In women hair loss can occur for various reasons, some including:

Breaking of hair (from treatments, twisting or pulling of hair, hair shaft abnormalities that are present from birth etc.)
Some skin disease which results in scarring of hair follicle.
Hormonal abnormalities such as too much testosterone, and too much or too little thyroid hormone.
Iron or vitamin deficiency.
Major illness, surgery, pregnancy or medications such as chemotherapy and beta blockers.
 Home Remedies for hair loss:

There are plenty of home remedies available for hair loss. Some of them are as follows.

Take Vitamins A, B6, B12, Folic acid, biotin, and Vitamin C. But too much of vitamin A can cause hair loss so it is necessary to take it less than 100,000 IU daily.
Taking silica capsules once a day makes hair stronger and thicker.
Rinsing the hair with a mix of apple cider vinegar and sage tea helps hair growth.
Taking Ginkgo Biloba improves blood circulation to the scalp.
Using nettles either internally or locally stimulates hair growth since it contains high amounts of silica.
Using rosemary oils stimulate hair growth and improve oxygen delivery to the follicles.
 Prevention of hair loss:

There are some possible ways with which we can prevent or reduce hair loss. They are:

Understanding why the hair loss happens and taking appropriate treatment for it.
Taking very good care of the hair.
Washing hair regularly with mild shampoo.
Being gentle with the hair.
Getting the stress level under control.
Changing food and eating habits that encourage the hair growth.
