PROLONGED PERIODS

A prolonged state of menses is also known as hyper menorrhea. This condition affects some women due to number of conditions that include congenital uterine conditions, injury and infections. Women who are having large uterus may face this problem mostly. The process of menstruation occurs when it is triggered by the destruction of the corpus lithium in the ovary.

There are some more problems like hyper menorrhea where there is too much flow is experienced.  Normal loss of fluid during menstruation should be just 80ml. but  sometimes this amount may be increased along with increased duration.

Causes of prolonged periods:-

Ineffective functioning of thyroid glands
Hormonal imbalance
Regular consumption of drugs
Changes in contraceptive pills
Pregnancy complications
Excessive thickening of uterus wall
Presence of fibroids
Psychological causes like stress, fear, fatigue, emotional instability etc., are some more reasons for prolonged periods.

Symptoms of prolonged periods:-

Heavy periods with discharge for a period of 7-15days
Over bleeding
Mood imbalance is likely to occur
Extreme fluctuations in hormones
Discontinued functioning of ovaries are some of the symptoms for prolonged periods.

Home remedies for prolonged periods:-

Taking sufficient rest is important to control this problem
Change of tampons after every 2-3 hours is a must to avoid infections of sorts
Avoid coffee, tea, alcohol and aerated drinks as they increase the blood flow.
Eating cooked banana flower with curd gives you relief from over bleeding
Coriander seeds are highly beneficial for excessive menstruation. Boil 6 grams of seeds in ½ liter of water and let it boil until the water becomes half and then drink it. It acts as an efficient home remedy for prolonged periods problem
Drink a glass of milk with ½ teaspoon of cinnamon. It is good for the problem of prolonged periods.
The above all are temporary relief remedies for the prolonged menstruation problem. It’s better to consult a gynecologist for permanent relief
