Tinea corpus or also known as the ringworm of the body is an infection that usually appears as a red itchy expanding ring on the skin of your body. Despite of the name, this infection has nothing to do with worms. In fact tinea corpus is caused by a fungus called dermatophytes. It can affect anyone with any age, even though most people who suffer this infection are children. Tinea corpus isn’t harmless, but they are itchy and they can easily spread to other parts of your body.

In fact it is contagious and it can affect people by skin to skin or contact with equipments that are unwashed. The fungi of this infection will appear in moist areas, and sweaty areas of the skin. The easiest way to prevent tinea corpus is having good general hygiene. This can be done by washing your hand regularly after or before doing any kind of activity. Another step that supports good general hygiene is by avoiding contact with infected people or pets and not sharing personal items such as your comb or towels. If you start to have tinea corpus on any part of your body, wash and dry the affected area quickly then apply some lotion or cream. This step will help heal the infection so that it doesn’t spread.

Usually home remedies are quite effective to get rid of tinea corpus, if they do fail then go see a doctor. Sometimes the infection has spread deeper into the skin without people realizing, which can cause other infection in your skin.
